We named our vineyard, Fat Basset Vineayrds, after our two Basset Hounds, Callahan and Highway.

Churn Creek Cellars actually began as Fat Basset Vineyards. When we decided to "plant some grapes and learn to make some wine", this was the name we chose for our vineyard. We had two Basset Hounds, and their names were Callahan (lemon) and Highway (tri-color). They were both very good natured dogs.

We started by planting 152 vines in the front of our property on about a 1/4 acre in 2009. We then expanded with another 1/4 acre planting with 155 vines in the back of the property in 2013 and 2014. Most of our grapes are Tempranillo and Malbec, but we have some Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, and Viognier vines too. We started planting a Barbera fence last spring with another 25 vines.

Soon you will be able to taste some wine with our "Fat Basset" label. We decided to incorporate Churn Creek Cellars are our legal trade name, but if we make wine specificaly from our grapes, then the Fat Basset label will be on the bottle. Otherwise, you will see the familiar "star logo" of Churn Creek Cellars.

We look forward to releasing Fat Basset in the new year, and introducing our hounds Callahan and Highway to the public!
